The Victoria Line – Choral Workshop

Friday 20th March @ 14:00 - 17:30

Take a ride on the Victoria Line as we enjoy an afternoon of motets by Tomás Luis de Victoria, the leading Spanish composer of the late Renaissance and a central figure in sacred music of the Counter-Reformation.  Educated in Rome and closely associated with the Jesuit order, his music is known for its clarity of texture and direct engagement with text.  Victoria spent much of his professional life in Rome, where he was part of an international circle of composers and clerics at the heart of Catholic musical reform.  Unlike many of his contemporaries, he devoted himself almost exclusively to sacred composition.  The workshop will focus on ensemble blend, tuning, and clarity of line, with attention to text underlay and imitation in Victoria’s exquisite motets.  Directed by Scott Inglis-Kidger.
