Fondazione Milano Institute of Early Music

Unique in Italy and modelled on Europe’s leading early music schools, the Institute of Early Music at the Claudio Abbado Civic School of Music attracts students from all over the world. Renowned for its teaching of the very highest standard, it combines academic study with a busy concert programme in partnership with the leading musical institutions in the city of Milan. Students regularly take part in national and international early music festivals. The Institute offers students study programmes designed to develop specific skills within the early music repertoire, as well as numerous opportunities for ensemble and orchestral practice, including through seminars, masterclasses and workshops with prestigious teachers from institutions participating in the Erasmus programme. The Institute of Early Music was founded in 1979 with the establishment of a Centre for Studies and Research into Early Music dedicated to specialisation and advanced training in performance practice using medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and Classical period instruments.
